If you’ve already explored the basics of New World: Aeternum, it’s time to dive deeper into the game’s gear customization, gem socketing, and trophy systems. This part of the beginner’s guide will help you optimize your build, earn better loot, and understand endgame progression.

Transmog System

In major settlements, you can visit an Appearance NPC to transmog your armor and change your character’s look. Any armor you’ve obtained or unlocked in-game can be used for appearance changes. You can also purchase cosmetic skins directly from the Store.

  • Transmog Tokens are earned through Seasonal Rewards or can be purchased.
  • You can also dye your gear — dyes can be crafted via the Arcane Repository or bought from the Trading Post.

Tip: Customize your armor to look unique without affecting your stats or bonuses.

Gem Socketing

Some items, especially Named Items or Artifacts, may not have gem sockets by default. To add one, you’ll need a “Gem Slot” perk, obtained through crafting or upgrading your gear.

  • Weapon Gems: Boost specific elemental or damage types (e.g. Fire, Nature, Arcane).
  • Armor & Jewelry Gems: Provide resistance against certain damage types.

Gems are consumed on use — once replaced, the old gem is destroyed and cannot be retrieved. High-rarity gear often includes three or four perks plus one gem socket.

Gear Categories

Gear in New World: Aeternum is divided into Named Gear and Regular Gear:

  • Named Gear (with special background animation) has fixed perks and cannot be modified, such as Gathering and Crafting Sets.
  • Regular Gear allows perk modification and resocketing via crafting.

Each gear type may have unique effects or scaling benefits depending on your attributes.

Group Play & Elite Chest Runs

After completing the Main Storyline, you’ll typically reach level 63+, unlocking high-level content. You can then join Elite Chest Runs — group events where players farm Elite Zones for gear, materials, and weapons.

  • Use the yellow chat channel to find groups (look for “ECR”).
  • You can teleport to teammates directly from the map.
  • Equip a Luck Set to improve rare drop chances during chest runs.

Even if your gear score isn’t high, simply follow the group, deal damage, and loot — it’s one of the best methods for farming starter endgame gear and named items.

Trophies & Housing System

Players can own up to three houses across Aeternum. Each home can display Trophies, which provide passive buffs such as increased crafting skill, gathering luck, or damage bonuses. If you have too many trophies, you can craft Combined Trophies (5-in-1) using Faction Blueprints — note that these cannot be traded. At the Trading Post, you can search for trophy recipes, view the required materials, and buy components from other players.

Understanding Gear Perks

Perks (also called Affixes) define how powerful your items are. For new players, it’s best to store everything in your Storage Shed and sort gear after chest runs.

  • Lock important gear (press L).
  • Salvage unwanted items (press C + Left Click).

Focus on perks that improve your core weapon damage, cooldown reduction, or resistances based on your build.

Quick Tips

  • Coatings and Potions provide valuable elemental advantages in combat.
  • Combine Faction Missions with Elite Runs for faster leveling and rewards.
  • Always check Trading Post prices — even low-level materials can sell for high gold.
