Overview

The Sorcerer in ESO is a mage class that deals lightning damage, uses dark magic, and summons special Daedric creatures.

There are three special skill lines: Dark Magic, Daedric Summoning, and Storm Calling—they encompass damage, support, summons, and mobility. The Sorcerer can be used for many different things.

Roles

Magicka DPS: In ranged combat, there are strong lightning AoEs and damage on a single target.
Petsorc / Summoner: uses Daedric summons to deal damage and draw the attention of enemies
Utility/Hybrid: Dark Magic offers control, debuff effects, and benefits for the group. The sorcerer can be used in dungeons, trials, and PvP, depending on their specialization.

First priorities when leveling

Unlocking specific lines in the class. Place early abilities from three different class lines on the bar. The skill lines become stronger through use.

Weapon: A Destruction Staff (Lightning) is good for beginner mages when leveling up. It has good area damage abilities and is ideal for Magicka-based characters. Beginners often use two destruction staffs to level up.
Armor: Light Armor node at level 5; combine different types of armor until you unlock the 5-piece passive. After that, wear 5 pieces of light armor for Magicka builds.
Collect Skyshards: Be careful while traveling and find 3 Skyshards to earn 1 skill point.

Skill lines

Dark Magic includes control, tools, and some healing and support options like Crystal Shards, Incase, and Rune Prison. Especially helpful in teams and in player-versus-player mode.
Daedric Summoning includes pets, shields, and summoning ultimates (Summon Storm Atronach, Twilight Matriarch). Important for building Petsorc characters.
Storm Calling improves lightning damage, endurance, and agility through various passive abilities. Faster regeneration of spell power and lightning effects.

Beginner build

A sorcerer in a game uses two destruction staffs, wears five pieces of light armor, and focuses on spell damage, critical hits, and Magicka. Important skills are Crystal Fragment(s), Daedric Prey, and Hardened Ward.
Petsorc (Solo Beginner): Focus on one thing Daedric Summoning is a popular concept among many players, as it makes leveling with pets easier.
Hybrid/stamina experiments are feasible but not advisable for complete beginners.

Attributes, Mundus & Champion Points

Attributes: Primarily for spell power (for Magicka builds and Petsorc). You can rearrange things differently later if you want.
Choose Mundus: The Apprentice for more spell damage or defensive alternatives if you die often.
Champion Points: At the beginning, it's better to invest points in defense to survive longer. Later, it's better to switch to offensive abilities.

Tips

At the beginning, craft sets or affordable overland sets (Julianos, etc.) are ideal for starting out.
Choose between PvE meta or PvP sets for mid/endgame. Each has different goals (e.g., penetration vs. reducing survivability).
Basic rotation (Magicka DPS): DoT/consistent DoT + main ability filler (e.g., Crystal Fragment), pet/Storm Atronach as add, and defensive shields (Hardened Ward) during high damage. Ultimates work together in team bursts.
Tip for Petsorc: Keep your pets with you, maintain distance, and target individual enemies to make solo play easier.
Defensive skills: Learn how to hide behind objects and when to interrupt attacks to survive longer in dungeons and PvP situations.

The Sorcerer is strong in PvP and can achieve surprising victories with lightning combos and companions, but the class is vulnerable. Use shields (Hardened Ward) and mobility (Storm Calling mobility) for better survival. Dark Magic helps with controlling enemies in the team.
