In Fallout 76, the stealth build is a classic playstyle that combines stealth, high burst, and V.A.T.S. precision shots. You attack stealthily, eliminate enemies discreetly, and avoid direct combat—perfect for players who prefer to explore alone.

The idea of the "first strike" is to attack the opponent unexpectedly and use V.A.T.S. criticals for a one-shot kill.

Core Mechanics

1. Basic Advantages

  • If you attack stealthily, sneak attacks at the beginning cause double or more damage.
  • If you attack enemies from behind, you can often take them out without taking damage, especially with robots and sentinels that turn slowly.
  • After defeating an enemy, move away and let them not attack you anymore—this way, you secure places safely.

2. Survival Strategy

  • If you use the "Chameleon" mutation or an invisible solution and wear light armor, you can completely camouflage yourself.
  • After removing: Move away immediately, let AP regenerate, or hide. Next, set a new target.

Distribution of SPECIAL attributes

  • S (Strength): A value between 2 and 5 is sufficient for backpack skills and additional ammo carriers.
  • P (Perception): Perception strongly influences the hit chance in V.A.T.S. and is very important.
  • E (Endurance): Endurance with a value of 3-5 is important for survival, but a high value is not necessarily required if you successfully sneak.
  • C (Charisma): Charisma has a value between 2 and 6, for example, when you share cards or sometimes work in a team.
  • I (Intelligence): It increases repair and crafting skills from 5 to 8 and reduces ammunition consumption.
  • A (Agility): Agility has a value between 12 and 15. This value affects sneaking, maximum AP, and V.A.T.S. combos.
  • L (Luck): Luck between 7% and 12% increases the chance of critical hits and the amount of ammunition you find.

Weapon recommendation

Early Phase (Level 1-25)

  • Shotgun—A shotgun causes a lot of head damage and is great for sneaking up on single targets.
  • Pipe Rifle—This is easy to get and perfect for stealthy players, especially with a silencer.
  • Short SMG—This is for clearing small enemies in close quarters.

Middle phase (level 25-50)

  • Combat Rifle—It is a silent rifle for shooters who want to attack from a distance.
  • Western revolver—A Western revolver has a high rate of fire and is well-suited as a weapon for side attacks.
  • Crossbow—The crossbow causes a lot of damage when you move quietly, but it is slow.

Late Phase (Level 50+)

  • The Fixer (Legendary SMG) – It is often used in stealth playstyles, as it is quiet, shoots quickly, and works well with the V.A.T.S. system.
  • Lever-Action Rifle – It is used for precise headshots.
  • Gauss or Rail Gun (with suppressor)—A gun that is quiet and can fire powerful shots, ideal for stealthy kills.

Stealth & Survive

  • Covert Operative—more damage when attacking from a distance and in secrecy.
  • Sneak—It reduces the likelihood of being detected while moving quietly.
  • Escape Artist: After running, you can immediately go back to sneaking.

V.A.T.S Enhancement

  • Concentrated Fire—Focused fire in V.A.T.S. increases hit and damage.
  • Gun Fu—In V.A.T.S. mode, you receive additional damage when you switch targets.
  • Better Criticals—stronger critical hits in V.A.T.S. mode.

Critical & Ammo-Loop

  • Critical Savvy – When you hit critically, it costs less crit energy.
  • Four-Leaf Clover—In V.A.T.S., hits with a four-leaf clover restore the critical meter.
  • Grim Reaper's Sprint—Killing in V.A.T.S. gives you your action points back.

Survival support

  • Dodgy—If you dodge skillfully, you take less damage from attacks.
  • Action Boy/Girl—It means that action points regenerate faster.

Tips

  • Before you are attacked, crouch down and hide in the bush or in the shadow to avoid being discovered.
  • Before you are attacked, crouch down and hide in the bush or in the shadows to avoid being detected. First, defeat enemies in the distance or on towers to avoid being hit while sneaking.
  • Use V.A.T.S. specifically for headshots or weak points on strong enemies. If you often miss, use Concentrated Fire.
  • Always shoot quietly to avoid attracting attention and drawing in many enemies.
  • Actively use the ammo/crit loop by killing a target, reloading the crit, and then moving to the next target.
  • Dangerous enemies like Super Mutants can find you more easily if you move or make noise, so stay on the move.
  • Ammunition can be expensive. It is advisable to carry a close-combat weapon like a bow or a knife as an alternative.
  • If you're dealing with air units or fast enemies, it's better not to sneak. Instead, use explosives or powerful weapons to prepare yourself.
